HughesNet Common Questions

Please describe HughesNet Satellite Internet.

HughesNet Internet Service benefits from a powerful satellite signal. Anywhere in the contiguous United States, homes and businesses with clear views of the southern sky can catch the high speed HughesNet signal. The connection speed is much faster than that offered by dial-up service, so surfing the Internet, watching videos, and sharing files are made much more enjoyable and efficient.

What speeds does HughesNet satellite broadband Internet provide?

Several Hughes Net Satellite Internet plans are available. Different maximum data transfer speeds are made available in the Basic, Power 150, and Power 200 plans.

  • With the HughesNet Basic service, customers can connect with maximum download speeds of 1.0 Mbps. Upload speeds with the Basic service are up to 200 Kbps.
  • With the HughesNet Power 150 Internet package, customers get maximum download speeds of 1.5 Mbps and a max upload speed of 250 Kbps.
  • The HughesNet Power 200 plan, our premier plan, has maximum download speeds of 2.0 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 300 Kbps.
Customers connecting more than one computer to the Internet might prefer the ultra-fast Power 200 Plan – especially if they plan to enjoy online video, virtual gaming, or other activities that require a lot of bandwidth. A HughesNet agent can help determine which high speed satellite Internet plan is best for your home or business.

Please note: Connection speeds are typically 60%-70% of the maximum during popular usage times. Thus the service is not necessarily ideal for accessing time-sensitive Internet applications such as real-time equity trade sites and certain video games. Service may also be slowed if the user chooses to use a VPN (virtual private network).
